Marijuana, $32K, puppies found in potential drug, dog ring bust

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Tipton County deputies believe they just busted a huge dog fighting ring.

But, they uncovered more than just dogs in the raid when they stormed a home in Covington.

23 dogs were taken from Albert White's house. Seven are currently at the Covington City pound.

Some of the dogs' injuries are so severe, they may have to be euthanized.

Caretakers have been nursing these pit bulls all weekend.

One pit bull has two broken front legs.

In all, 13 adult pit bulls and 10 pit bull puppies were taken from behind a house on Turner Lane.

"Obviously, their conditions were awful for dogs," said Chief Donna Turner from the Tipton County Sheriff's Office.

Last week, deputies arrested Albert White.

White is facing charges of drug possession, possession of a firearm, and possession of vicious dogs.

This is not White's first brush with the law. He is a convicted felon.

One neighbor was surprised by the incident.

"Nice guy, works everyday. I  (didn't) known him to have problems like that," added neighbor Windal Edwards.

In addition to the dogs, deputies also took a large amount of marijuana and over $32,000 in cash from inside White's house.

"(I) have no idea if it was proceeds from the sell of drugs, puppies, or from fighting dogs," continued Chief Turner.

Neighbors near White's home made clear they had never heard the dogs behind his house.

While some of the dogs taken from White's home may have to be euthanized, some may be up for adoption. For more information, call Covington City Hall at 901-476-9613.
