Grambling football team won't play Saturday

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Grambling Tigers will not put a team on the field against Jackson State Saturday for the Tigers' homecoming game. That word comes from the Jackson State Athletic Department.

In a 5:30 news conference, Jackson's State's Eric Stringfellow said that all other homecoming activities will go on a scheduled, and the football team will play an inter squad scrimmage at 2 p.m. Saturday in place of the game.

The game will be considered a forfeit, and Jackson State is trying to work out some type to refund process for fans who would like their ticket money back

Earlier in the afternoon, we confirmed that no players boarded buses on the Grambling campus to make the trip to Jackson.

Grambling has not won a game this season and is in the midst of a 17 game losing streak.

The Tigers fired interim head coach George Ragsdale this week and replaced him with Defensive Coordinator Dirt Winston.

The football players walked out of a Wednesday meeting with the school president and refused to practice that evening or Thursday.

Football players are upset over the team having to ride buses to games in Indianapolis and Kansas city the past two weeks.

Grambling players say they are also upset over the firing of head coach Doug Williams.
