Several fights broke out Downtown following ‘Memphis Madness’

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Police say several large fights broke out in the Beale Street area Friday night following "Memphis Madness." There was plenty of action on the basketball court at FedExForum and, apparently, undesirable action on Beale Street.

An Actions News Hi-5 camera caught the aftermath of the fights. There were still thousands of people in the area between 9 and 10 o'clock Friday night.

Beale Street officials say the fights broke among more than a dozen juveniles shortly after crowds left FedExForum where the "Memphis Madness" basketball exhibition took place.

Occasional fights and other violence are not unheard of along Beale, but many say it's a shame some of it may have been related to such a great event.

Memphian Rich Thomas said, "I did hear about that and it's a shame, because you're going to have them and it's stuff like that that gives Memphis a bad name."

Police have not said whether any arrests were made as a result of Friday night's fights, but did confirm that no one was seriously injured.
