Man shot dead on sidewalk identified

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Memphis Police Department identified the man found dead early Sunday morning at 1473 East Alcy Road.

According to police, Calvin Blakely, 36, was found shot to death around 7 a.m. Sunday at 1473 East Alcy Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and found him lying on the sidewalk in front of a house, which is near a church.

Justin Young and his dad heard two gun shots around 2 a.m. Sunday.

"It was like real pow, like a boom or a thump sound, but a louder one...like somebody smacked a brick wall," explained Young.

Young said he and his father came outside, saw two cars drive away, but did not see or hear anyone get hit.

Hours later, police knocked on their door and told them a man was found dead.

"They had the street blocked off. There was a body there, laying in the driveway right there. So, we were like 'when we looked we didn't see nobody last night'," Young said.

Young stated he does not think the victim was shot in front of the house.

"We didn't see nobody running and, like I said, we didn't hear nobody holler. When somebody gets shot, you're gonna hear them. We didn't hear none of that. So, (we) came up with the conclusion that somebody must have just dropped him off right there and kept going," continued Young.

Currently, police do not have any suspects in custody.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
