Hospital Wing suspends air transport until further notice

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Hospital Wing is grounded following the helicopter crash that killed one of its pilots and two Le Bonheur Children's Hospital employees Tuesday.

Hospital Wing employed pilot Charles Smith, who was one of three people killed when one of its helicopters crashed near Somerville around 6:20 a.m. Pedi-Flight nurse Carrie Barlow and Pedi-Flite respiratory therapist Denise Adams were also on the chopper when it went down.

The company has not yet said how long it will be before its helicopters are back in the air.

According to its website, Hospital Wing owns seven helicopters equipped to transport critically ill and injured patients. It transports an average of 150 patients each month.
