MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A new awards show will soon put the Bluff City in national spotlight.

According to officials, the Soul of Memphis Legacy awards will come to Memphis in February 2014.

The event will honor music legends and celebrate new artists.

Malcolm Jamal Warner and Elise Neal have agreed to emcee the event at the Cannon Center.

Mayor AC Wharton said the organization has chosen the best possible location for the event.

"This announcement is something that will really magnify and send around the world what we have known about our great city for a long, long time," stated Wharton.

Centric and Global Liberty Entertainment Awards, Inc are working together to host the ceremony.

Mayor Wharton's Chief of Staff, Robert S. White, II, agreed Memphis is the perfect location for the show.

"Memphis is the quintessential city for an awards show of this caliber. In fact the city's character will be threaded throughout the show," explained White.

The groups want to celebrate on the positives of Memphis and aim to honor recipients of all ages.

The show will air in March on BET's Centric network.
