Something out of Halloween folklore has apparently come true for two different Middle Tennessee families.

Police are now investigating after parents discovered a needle and razor blade placed in their children's Halloween candy.

Officials say one family found a broken razor blade in the bottom of a treat bag, while another found a needle placed in a re-wrapped Tootsie Roll.

It's a frightening and dangerous problem in a busy neighborhood, where some homes see up to 500 trick-or-treaters.

"I can't imagine anybody in this neighborhood doing anything like that. I'm just wondering if some of the oncoming, transient Halloweeners, whether they're bringing anything in," said Lebanon resident Gail Nowling.

With hundreds of possible suspects from families who handed out Halloween candy to other trick-or-treaters, Lebanon police said they don't expect to make an arrest.
