MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The who's who of the Mid-South will join international stars as the National Civil Rights Museum kicks off the annual Freedom Awards Celebration on Wednesday.

Thousands of people will pack into the Temple of Deliverance Church for a public forum honoring this year's honorees.

Beverly Robertson with the National Civil Rights Museum said, "Our theme for this year is shaping a culture and building a nation."

This year's lifetime achievement award goes to Earl Graves Senior. He founded Black Enterprise magazine.

Mary Robinson earned the International Freedom award. She was the first female president of Ireland. She was then named High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations.

The third recipient, Geoffrey Canada, is a social activist and president and CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone. This is an organization to increase high school and college graduation rates among students in Harlem.

Wednesday morning's public forum begins at 10 at the Temple of Deliverance and is free.

The Award Ceremony and Gala is a black-tie affair Wednesday night at the Cannon Center.
