MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Tis the season.  Black Friday is fast approaching.  If you think the Christmas season is starting earlier than usual, you're right.

John Sumner of Greenline Landscaping decorates for the downtown Memphis Commission.  The 35-foot Christmas tree in Autozone Park takes 3,500 lights and over 200 man hours to assemble.

"Well for me it starts in September," said Sumner.  "This year we added the 2,600 ornaments."

City decorations are going up about a week early this year to take advantage of pleasant weather.

"It's starting really early usually you at least wait until Thanksgiving to start Christmas," said Tim Richards of Clinton, Mississippi.

Even those in the holiday spirit say there is one thing they are not ready for Christmas carols on the radio 24-7, and it started a week ago.

"That would kill me.  Christmas music is way over ran," said Tim Richards.

"I'm not listening to it (laughs) yet," Sumner said.

A late Thanksgiving means a shortened shopping season.  Black Friday may be eclipsed by Thanksgiving Thursday. And this year, the Grinch might have his eye on Thanksgiving.

"I feel like Thanksgiving gets overlooked and that should be just as important of what we're thankful for," said shopper Brandy Richards.  She says the commercial side of Christmas shouldn't skip the gratitude and bring on the greed.
