SOUTHAVEN, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Four years ago, Fantastic Sam's Co-Owner, Scott Carlton, made what he calls a wise decision to open shop on Church Road.

"I think Church Road is growing slowly but surely. That's one reason we picked to put our second business in this area. I knew that, eventually, the Church Road would be ... like we see Goodman Road right now," said Carlton.

The Outlet Shops of the Mid-South is a product of POAG Shopping Centers and the Simpkin Group, LLC in Memphis.

The mall is located off Interstate Highway 55 on Church Road. It is 4.5 miles from Memphis.

The new structure will house name brand and designer outlets, as well as several eateries and hotels.

"So, I think it will increase the business and, of course, produce more jobs. In turn, (it will) bring more people from the Tri-State area since we do service Tennessee, Arkansas, and Memphis," stated Carlton. "Southaven is really growing you can cause once they get that open the future is wide open."

The city of Southaven has endorsed plans by the Outlet Shops of the Mid-South to build the $165 million development.

"The nearest factory outlet mall, large one, is, I think, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri," said Southaven resident James Tyler.

Another resident believes the outlet mall will make a positive difference for the community.

"It's gonna draw a lot of people to the area for sure," exclaimed Southaven neighbor, Karen Parker.

Tyler thinks Southaven is an expanding city.
