Ben Dupree earned his second Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors of the season on Monday for his performance in the Bulldogs' 35-10 win over Elon on Saturday.
The senior signal caller carried 18 times for 64 yards and scored three touchdowns and added a touchdown through the air on 4-of-6 passing for a career-high 166 yards.
Dupree connected with Darien Robinson on a 65-yard touchdown pass on the second play from scrimmage in the second half to push the Bulldogs ahead, 21-10. He also scored on runs of two, two and 17 yards and leads the SoCon with 15 rushing touchdowns this season.
Dupree passed Stump Mitchell for the third most touchdowns in school history, and his 2,499 rushing yards ranks seventh in The Citadel record book. Dupree ranks eighth in the SoCon this season with an average of 83.0 yards per game on the ground.
Dupree and linebacker Tevin Floyd also gained recognition from the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for their efforts against the Phoenix.
Floyd picked off two Mike Quinn passes on Saturday. The first was a first quarter pass that deflected off Brandon McCladdie and into the hands of Floyd. The second came in the fourth quarter when Floyd intercepted Quinn's pass on the goal line and ran it back 23 yards. Both interceptions resulted in Citadel touchdowns.
Through just 10 career games, the true freshman has now accumulated 25 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, one of which he took back for a touchdown.
The Citadel returns home on Saturday for its annual Hall of Fame game as VMI comes to Johnson Hagood for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the coveted Silver Shako trophy on the line. The Bulldogs have topped the Keydets in six straight contests dating back to 2002.
