MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirms an arrest has been made in connection to the robberies in which a suspect has been dubbed the "Risky Business Bandit."

Surveillance photos from various bank robberies at Memphis Kroger grocery stores show the suspect wearing iconic sunglasses made famous in the movie "Risky Business."

Matthew Schweitzer, 26, appeared in federal court at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to his attorney, Schweitzer was a trained chef driven to rob banks by an addiction to heroin and methadone. He worked at Paulette's restaurant.

Schweitzer's mother and others spoke in court Tuesday about his addiction to heroin and methadone. One person said that he recently hit "a brick wall." His mother spoke briefly following the detention hearing.

"There is a lesson," she said. "Don't do drugs."

Investigators say Schweitzer and his accomplice, Derek Wurth, 25, hit at least three banks inside Memphis-area Kroger stores within a month's time.

The most recent robbery happened at the Kroger store on Germantown Parkway on November 4. The robbery of the SunTrust branch inside the store was so quiet that shoppers did not even know it had happened until they left the store.

Schweitzer reportedly confessed to the November 4 crime and signed a statement admitting to the robbery. He also confessed to taking part in another robbery, this time at the First Tennessee Bank, located in a Kroger store on 9025 US Highway, on October 11.

Schweitzer told investigators that his friend, Wurth, pulled off the October 11 robbery. Schweitzer admitted to driving the car.

Joe McKinney knew Schweitzer from the Colonial apartments in Midtown, where the Feds arrested him last week days before an unrelated fire broke out.

Neighbors noticed the unemployed chef suddenly had cash.

"I heard through the grapevine that he owed people money," said McKinney. "I mean, that's what happens when you do hard drugs."

A judge ordered Schweitzer to be held without bond despite an attempt by his attorney to get him sent to rehab. Little information has been released concerning Wurth, except for that he was arrested in Oxford, Mississippi.
