6 local businesses compete to help start-up costs

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The clock is ticking for six hopeful businesses participating in Start Companies' 48 Hour Launch event.

The beginning founders are spending the weekend working closely with marketers, lawyers, accountants, and designers to launch their businesses.

The end goal is to foster more opportunities for entrepreneurs in Memphis and to get ideas flowing to make local businesses grow.

48 Hour Launch Coordinator, Hillary Quirk, is excited about the potential impact on the Mid-South.

"Anytime there's new ideas, new ways to create more jobs, it makes innovative practices in any sort of community. So, it's definitely worthwhile to have this going on," stated Quirk.

All six teams will have until Sunday evening to get their business plan together.

The best business will win a $1,000 cash prize to help with the beginning costs of opening a business.
