BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police said the second person accused of scamming an Alzheimer's patient out of $50,000 has been taken into custody.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Faye Smith, 29, of Baker, was arrested by the Baker Police Department during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.

She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of felony theft, forgery and monetary instrument abuse. Bond has not been set.

Investigators said Dustin Gant, 31, was arrested Friday by deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. Police said a tip led authorities to Gant's whereabouts and he was apprehended after a short foot chase.

According to investigators, Gant and Smith worked odd jobs around the victim's home for four months, doing things like fixing fences and flowerbeds. Police said family members noticed things, like the man's checkbooks, were disappearing.

"They were taking checks, going into businesses, cashing them (and) purchasing items," said Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, with BRPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
