Middle, Tennessee -

(WMC-TV) - A new Tennessee lawsuit could set the stage for how schools handle bullying across the nation.

The lawsuit, filed in Grainger County, in Middle, Tennessee, accused the school district of ignoring anti-bullying rules.

The case was filed on behalf of a student who was severely beaten by an alleged bully.

According to the lawsuit, the school district knew the girl was a danger to fellow students and that she had been convicted of assault previously. However, the district did nothing about it.

Grainger County school officials have not yet filed a response.
