DESOTO COUNTY, MS -

(WMC-TV) – A Mid-South politician is accused of adultery. And it is all spelled out in divorce documents.

A well-known state representative is accused of having an affair based on divorce documents obtained by Action News 5's Michael Clark.

People in DeSoto County know Pat Nelson as their House Representative for District 40.

Voters like John Mack put him in office a couple of years ago.

"Yeah, I think he was the best man for the job at that particular time," said Mack.

Divorce documents were unsealed in DeSoto County Chancery Court Wednesday and in the complaint Nelson is accused of adultery. Nelson denied the claims through court records. He did not respond to repeated attempts for a comment.

Mack thinks the allegations against the public leader are disappointing if they turn out to be true and said it would impact the way he votes. But for right now, he believes it's a family matter.

"I think it's a private matter, not because he's elected," said Mack. "I think it's a private issue going on."

Action News 5's Michael Clark reached out to Nelson's current wife. She said their 40th anniversary is coming up and she is heartbroken but could not talk about the case.
