Bartlett reaches tentative agreement over municipal school district

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Bartlett Mayor Keith McDonald confirms the suburb has reached a tentative agreement to resolve the legal dispute over whether it should form its own municipal school district.

The suburb will pay approximately $608,000 each year for 12 years. That will not pay for the school buildings.

Mayor McDonald is calling the potential deal a "great compromise."

The Bartlett agreement is similar to one reached by Arlington and Lakeland earlier this week. The plans are tentatively set for the Shelby County Schools Board agenda next Tuesday.

Bartlett will not need to raise property taxes to fulfill the agreement, according to the mayor.
