Final leg of Highway 385 opens to Mid-South drivers

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – After four years of road work and $74 million, the final leg of Highway 385 will open to Mid-South drivers Friday afternoon.

The 385 project started in 2009, to complete the final segment of the nearly 50-mile highway that stretches through Shelby and Fayette Counties.

Not only is it another traffic alternative, but the Tennessee Department of Transportation says the new stretch of highway is expected to provide opportunities for developing areas in eastern Shelby County and western Fayette County.

The section of 385 that's opening on Friday stretches from Highway 57 to Macon Road.

The new route opens up to traffic at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

This all kicks off with a special ceremony Friday morning at 10 a.m. at Collierville's Town Hall.

That's also when the new section of 385 will be officially designated as Governor Winfield Dunn Parkway, in honor of the former Tennessee governor.

Justin Hanson will be attending the ceremony, talking to Governor Dunn and take you along this new stretch of road, tonight on Action News 5.
