Local event tries to give children a family and home

(WMC-TV) - Saturday, Mid-South families have the opportunity to learn what it takes to become a forever family for a foster child in need of a loving home.

The Memphis Department of Children's Services is celebrating National Adoption Month with an event called 'Memphis Celebrates A Family for Every Child'.

This 2013 year, children's artwork will be showcased. The kids were asked to paint pictures of what they qualities they want their adoptive family to have.

A guest speaker and a statement from the mayor are expected to be presented.

The event is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bert Ferguson Community Center in Cordova.
