ShapeUp ShowDown: Meet a single mom, former cheerleader

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – This week's ShapeUp ShowDown contestant "close up" features the daughter of another contestant Kym Clark has already introduced.

She's a single mom and a former cheerleader who is hoping to drop four dress sizes and get back her self-esteem. Jennifer Terry is working hard to get in shape; hard work, being something with which this single mom is all too familiar.

"I have a 4 year old at home that, as soon as his feet hit the floor in the morning, it's time to go and I just don't have the energy to keep up with him," Terry said.

Like many women, Jenn's 55 pound weight gain came on about the same time as her son's birth.

The 28-year-old decided to give ShapeUp ShowDown a try after her mother, Debbie, another ShapeUp challenger, told her about the auditions.

Terry said, "She called me and told me that I needed to sign up for it and I said, ‘I will, if you will.'"

And now, they work out together and even have their own little mother-daughter competition going during the 90-day weight loss challenge.

"It's great! Now, I have her next to me, you know, sweatin' it out, trying to do everything with me and we're gonna use each other, we're gonna lean on each other and we may fight a little bit!" Terry said.

She goes on to say, "In the end, I mean, she's still a really good friend to me and she is a great mom."

And that mother-daughter partnership seems to be paying off; Jenn lost almost 5 pounds in the first weigh-in.

But she's quick to say, it's not about those numbers.

"I'm not really concerned about the pounds. I'm more concerned about the inches because I already knew that muscle weighs more than fat, so, I don't care what the scale says. I care what size jeans I'm gonna get into." Jenn said.

Kym Clark got the chance to go hang out at a ShapeUp ShowDown during one of their Saturday morning workouts and is truly amazed at some of these folks determination!

In addition to their grueling morning group workouts, many of them also work out on their own; sometimes twice a day.
