Mid-South leaders declare Tuesday as Memphis’ Day of Giving

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – Charities in the Mid-South and across the country are hoping you'll open your wallets for them, much like people did while shopping over the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

Giving Tuesday is a national day that is encouraging people to be generous in their giving.

Food pantries and organizations to help those in need are especially in need of giving.

They are starting to feel the impact of food stamp cuts.

Shay Merritt with Second Harvest Food Bank said, "Emergency food pantries are becoming sustaining food pantries where families are making ends meets by actually going to a food pantry once a month to get a free week's worth of groceries."

Memphis Mayor A. C. Wharton, and Council members Kemp Conrad and Wanda Halbert all declared Tuesday as Memphis' Day of Giving.

The MED in Memphis is also taking part in Giving Tuesday. They are "encouraging Memphians to be generous in any ways that matter to them."
