Mid-South non-profit expands to helping corporations volunteer

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Action News 5 is sending a high five to Volunteer Odyssey. The non-profit group that helps unemployed Mid-Southerners find jobs through volunteering has expanded their operations.

Volunteer Odyssey now offers volunteer packages for corporate groups. Its first customers were Memphis Cook Convention Center employees.

Employees had the day off to help people at the Mid-South Food bank. Something workers say is pretty important.

MCCC Director Pierre Landaiche said, "There are people who are hungry in Memphis. So we recognize that and see this as a way to give back and you know it's a way for us to spend time together outside of the office."

Volunteers helped the food bank donate 12,000 meals.

Volunteer Odyssey representatives say this is another way to promote a culture of volunteerism in the Mid-South.

The founder of Volunteer Odyssey, Dr. Sarah Petschonek says, "Employees are searching for meaning in their work; a connection to their employer and to their city."
