MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - How do you give back to your community? The question is swirling on social media since December 3 was dubbed #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday is a worldwide movement encouraging people to donate their time or money to help those less fortunate.

Here are a few questions being posed to get you thinking about how much you help out in your community:

If you had a dollar to spare who would you give it to?

If you had a free moment to spend what would you do with it?

An animated promotional video is making its rounds on YouTube to get people involved.

Since the movement began two years ago, #GivingTuesday has been held on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

It is designed to coincide with the holiday shopping season and create a national movement of good will and charitable donations.

Last year, more than 2,500 nonprofit organizations and businesses participated in #GivingTuesday. Memphis leaders are now hoping other Mid-Southerners will get involved.

You can help spread the word by using the hashtag #GivingTuesday on your social media accounts. It is your chance to get involved and make this holiday season just a little more special for someone in need.
