Report: ACL injury sidelines Mettenberger for bowl game

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger will not be playing in the upcoming bowl game due to a torn ACL he suffered in the 31-27 win over Arkansas, according to ESPN reports.

Mettenberger left the game in the fourth quarter after being hit low on his left leg. He had to be helped off the field and checked out on the sidelines. Mettenberger left the field on crutches at the end of the game.

Freshman quarterback Anthony Jennings replaced Mettenberger and led the Tigers to the comeback win.

Mettenberger threw 22 touchdowns during LSU's regular season, leading the Tigers to nine wins. He became the third quarterback in LSU history to throw for 3,000 yards in a season.

Coach Les Miles did not release Mettenberger's injury status on Monday and the report of the ACL tear has not yet been confirmed.
