Mt. Juliet police have arrested a man who fled from officers Wednesday and caused an elementary school to go on lockdown for a short time.

Shawn Neal, 21, of Lebanon, is accused of driving recklessly on Belinda Parkway in a residential area about 11 a.m.

But when an officer attempted to pull Neal over, he allegedly refused to stop. After a short vehicle pursuit, Neal lost control and crashed into a fire hydrant before his vehicle flipped into the front yard of a home at the corner of Belinda Parkway and Alsdale Drive.

Police say Neal then got out of his car and ran.

Rutland Elementary School was placed on a soft lockdown to ensure the students remained safe during the search for Neal, who was later located under the rear deck of a house in the 1700 Block of Pratston Court about 1 p.m.

He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash and now faces several charges, including evading, possession of drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked license.
