(WMC-TV) - If you are a parent then you know that the Internet plays a major part in your child's homework and projects.

Not every student has access to the Internet, but local leaders are working to change that.

They are doing it with the Internet Essentials Program. It is an initiative that helps connect low-income families to the Internet.

It targets households with children who receive free or reduced price school lunch.

The program allows parents to purchase the Internet for $10 dollars a month from Comcast.

Leaders say this program is not only important for the students but also their families.
