SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Two inmates attacked a Shelby County Corrections Deputy Thursday leaving him with a broken nose and a deep cut on his head.

Deputy Stanley Jones remains in the hospital but is stable. Medical professionals decided to keep him overnight as a precaution.

But this was only one of the two inmate attacks on deputies at the jail downtown this week.

On Wednesday investigators say Cortavious Harris had a run in with a deputy that ended in injuries for both of them. Harris was inside Division 15 before the judge on a disorderly conduct charge.

Investigators say when Harris, who was locked up, found out his case was rescheduled he jumped over a partition inside the courtroom and ran toward the doors trying to escape.

A deputy who grabbed him bumped heads. Harris and the deputy were taken to The MED and treated for cuts above their left eyes. Harris picked up new charges of escape, assault, and resisting official detention.

Jones has worked at the jail for 22 years.

The sheriff's department continues to investigate the in-jail attacks. The two inmates suspected of being responsible for Jones' injuries are in isolation.
