The University of Memphis football team may have struggled in its' transition to the New American Athletic Conference, but the move presented no problem for Tigers Punter Tom Hornsey.
Hornsey flourished in the new League, and is named the Ray Guy Award winner for the Nation's Best Punter at the College Football Awards show in Orlando.
Ray Guy himself presented the Award...a former Southern Miss Star who went on to become an NFL Hall of Famer with the Oakland Raiders.
As a Senior, Hornsey averaged more than 45 yards per punt.
He ranked 3rd nationally in Division One in punts downed inside the 20, and had 2 punts of 70 yards or long this season.
The most amazing thing about Hornsey, the Australia native had never even played American Football until coming to Memphis as a Freshman.
In his Career at Memphis, Hornsey had 3 of the highest punting averages in Tiger History..
His 41.2 net punting average THIS season ranked 4th in the Nation.
