MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Four little girls were left without a mother after a Memphis police officer made the ultimate sacrifice one year ago.

Officer Martoiya Lang was gunned down while attempting to serve a drug warrant December 14, 2012.

Even with time, Lang's cousin Neicy Moore said her death still hard to deal with.

"Extremely hard but our main focus is mainly the girls because, above all, they've taken a major loss," she said.

Moore said they are doing all they can to keep the four girls—ages 3, 13, 14, and 15—busy.

"The busier they are the less they kind of think about it, but the one who struggles the most is the baby," said Moore.

The three-year-old now talks about her mother.

"[She] asks, cry, speaks of her, laughs and jokes with her ... Calls her .... Makes phone calls to heaven so she can talk to her," said Moore.

The girls live with their maternal grandfather, but Moore said the whole family spends time with them.

"Much praying. Praying with a lot of family, activities, a lot of outings, going to the mall, get hair done, nails done," said Moore.

Moore said Officer Lang was everyone's hero.

"Everything you could think of in one person, that's what she was," said Moore.

Treveno Campbell, 21, is behind bars. He accused of killing officer Lang.

"I don't know [if I can forgive him]. The Bible says we should forgive but being that we are flesh it's kind of hard to. We wrestle with that all the time," said Moore.
