MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Memphis-based shipping giant FedEx is expected to move more than 20 million packages through the global network, which could potentially make Monday one of the busiest days in the company's history.

The shipping process sounds simple, but if you have never seen it happen at the FedEx sorting facility, you may wonder just how it all gets done.

As soon as the packages arrive at the sorting facility, they are each placed on a conveyer belt. FedEx workers go through them one by one, making sure they get loaded onto the correct truck so they will make it to their final destinations by Christmas.

A FedEx spokesperson says they brought on additional workers in order to handle the high volume this holiday season.

"We hired about 20,000 additional seasonal workers to handle the volume during the holidays," said Bonny Harrison, FedEx. "And that's on top of adding to the hours of the employees we already have if they choose to do that."

Remember, to make sure your package arrives at its destination by Christmas, it should be shipped by December 23 at the latest.
