MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Collierville is the first suburb to hire a superintendent. In a unanimous vote Monday, the newly formed school board voted to officially make John Aitken its superintendent.

Aitken, who worked as a consultant for Collierville and the other municipalities since leaving SCS, also worked as a teacher and coach at Collierville High School in 1983.

Prior to the official vote, Aitken shared with Action News 5 that he had already began thinking about how to get the Collierville School District up and running.

"HR systems, payroll, busing, food services. All those things we discussed as we prepared for the merger. Now, you're building from the ground up," he said.

Many of the details of Aitken's contract are not yet available, but the contract will run until June 2017.
