(WMC-TV) – Even with Kobe Bryant struggling with his return from an achilles injury, the Grizzlies weren't able to overcome their own deficiencies in a 96-92 loss.

Missing Marc Gasol and now point guard Mike Conley, the shorthanded Grizz couldn't close and lost their fourth game in a row.

As far as Kobe Bryant goes, Tony Allen thought it was the same Kobe he's been guarding for years.
"Kobe was Kobe," said Allen. "He was out there, he played. Kobe was Kobe."

Bryant had 21 points in 33 minutes. Former Grizzly Pau Gasol added 21 points and 9 rebounds.

Jarryd Bayless heated up in the fourth quarter as Conley's replacement, and Nick Calathes played the best game of his NBA career in relief. Bayless and Calathes combined for 23 points but only 2 assists. The distribution fell on the shoulders of shooting guards Mike Miller and Tony Allen, who each had 5 assists.

The Grizzlies fall to 10-14, and play the Dallas Mavericks in their first back-to-back in a month.
