MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Eight people are homeless just one week before Christmas, after a house fire in the 700 block of Atlantic Street, near Summer Avenue. The home caught fire just before midnight, Tuesday night in Memphis.

Fire officials say there were three adults and five children inside the house when the fire started, as well as several puppies and dogs.

The eight people and the pets were able to get out of the home safely.

Action News 5 cameras were on the scene and caught the flames and smoke shooting out the home.

According to crews on the scene, the cause may have been electrical, but an official cause has not been determined.

Officials have not said if the home is a total loss or how much damage the fire caused.

The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
