MILLINGTON, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Shelby County family believes the hunt for a missing relative may be over. Hunters found a body about a half-mile away from where the missing man lived.

In late October, Billy Joe Hardy took a walk in his neighborhood and never returned.

"Someone is missing, clearly you can't get to them, can't contact them, and get to them in any kind of way," said Hardy's daughter, Dr. Bianca Sweeten.

Dr. Sweeten believes the body found in a field late Tuesday is that of her 73-year-old father.

"Being the only missing person in the area, the likelihood is that its him," she said.

Sweeten says her dad had Alzheimer's Disease, but that did not take away from his happy demeanor.

"Kind-hearted little man in retirement with Alzheimer's, so he may or may not remember you at the time but wouldn't harm anyone really," she said.

Sweeten says since her dad disappeared, she and her family have been hopeful.

"You hope he somehow made it to a home, they're treating him fairly, and nice, and loving. If he's outside, hopefully he's warm, found a place to call his. What happened I don't know," she said.

Sweeten says she hopes others caring for those with Alzheimer's Disease learn lessons from her family's heartache.

"I'd tell them now to get a chip, GPS shoes, necklaces, watch...so you can find them if they so choose to leave home without your permission," she said.

Dr. Sweeten says she may never get all of the answers.

"We'll be forever piecing the story together," she continued.

The body found Tuesday was taken to the medical examiner's office for positive identification. That positive I.D. has not yet been released.
