JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A man was shot in the leg by his ex-girlfriend after she found him in the basement of her home in southwest Jefferson County Wednesday night, according the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

In and email to FOX6 News, Chief Deputy Randy Christian says the woman called deputies to her home in the 500 block of Seales Rd. just after 7 p.m.

According to Christian's she told dispatchers a struggle ensued when she discovered her ex-boyfriend, Klark Alan Gray, 34, of Pelham, in her basement. She says she tried to call 9-1-1 but he took her phone from her and smashed it.

The woman says after a struggle, she took a pistol from her pocket and shot Gray in the leg. Then, Gray ran from the home into a nearby wooded area. The woman says Gray dropped his phone during the struggle and she used it to call 9-1-1.

Deputies used dogs to track the suspect down.

Gray was taken into custody at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Christian says the wound doesn't appear to be life-threatening.

Gray has been charged with aggravated stalking, domestic violence, burglary and interference with a domestic violence call. His bond has been set at $66,000. He will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
