12 Strays of Christmas: Meet Bernadette

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Have you thought about opening up your heart and your home to a sweet animal in need this holiday season?

For the second year, Action News 5 is teaming up with the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County to bring you "The 12 Strays of Christmas."

During the 12 Strays of Christmas, you will meet 12 animals in need of homes this holiday season. We will introduce you to a new pet each day through December 22. And each pet featured in the "12 Strays of Christmas" comes with a very special adoption fee of just $12, which includes vaccination shots, spaying/neutering, and microchipping.

Meet Bernadette

Bernadette is a 1-year-old tan and white shepherd/lab mix, who was transferred to the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County from Memphis Animal Services in May 2013. She had severe burns covering much of her body. It is believed that she was set on fire.  Despite this, Bernadette loves people and she loves to play and get attention.

Bernadette is an absolute ham anywhere she goes in public, getting her belly rubbed and being showered with attention.  She is just one of those happy dogs who assumes that everyone who shows up is there to see her!  She is a high-energy girl who will do best with a family who will take some time to reinforce the basic manners she has learned and teach her even more.  Bernadette is about as big as she's going to get, weighing in at around 35 lbs.

If you would like to visit Bernadette, stop by the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County, located at 935 Farm Road.

The $12 adoption fee includes the following:

* Spay/neuter surgery

* Age appropriate vaccines

* Microchip for permanent identification
