Volunteers gather to share love, good food with less fortunate

(WMC-TV) - The Christmas spirit was felt around the Mid-South as volunteers opened their hearts to help feed those in need.

Christmas Day is a time when many people are able to share a meal with family and friends. But it is a tough time for those without families -- or the means to enjoy such a meal.

Wednesday morning, dozens of people gathered from Forgotten Soul and Christian Fellowship Ministries to prepare meals for the less fortunate.

"Christmas is a lot of gifts and material things that we could give to other but love is free and when you give love and give of yourself, give of your time and just give others a smile, sometimes that's all that they need to make it through the day," said organizer Rachel Lawson.

It is a day that can otherwise be lonely without such events.

"I don't have many family members here but the ones that is here, Merry Christmas to them all," said Annie Farr, who attended the event. "And remember what Christmas is. It's not about gifts and stuff, it's about showing the love that God came down here and gave to us."

"God blesses everybody in this whole community, that we all have a great Christmas and a great and prosperous new year," added Antonio Harris.

The event was a reminder that in this community... no one is ever alone.

If you have items you can donate to Forgotten Soul and Christian Fellowship, you can drop them off at 1289 Madison Avenue.
