MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis police officer is accused of having explicit photos of young girls on his cell phone.

According to an affidavit of complaint, someone found Matthew Ashmore's cell phone at a business. When pictures of little girls performing sexual acts on adult men were seen on the phone, the person who found it called police.

The girls in the photos are estimated to be between 2 and 6 years old.

Investigators with the Memphis Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children task force executed a search warrant and did find the images described by the person who turned it in.

Matthew Ashmore was later interviewed by investigators, who say he admitted to having the pictures on his phone.

Investigators charged Ashmore, who has been employed by Memphis Police Department for more than four years, with sexual exploitation of a minor.

The 26-year-old was most recently assigned to the South Main Station precinct. He was out on a $15,000 bond as of Friday afternoon. In addition, he is on paid leave from the department and drawing hard criticism from his boss.

"It really sickens me to find that someone who has been sworn to protect the citizens and uphold the law would prey on our innocent children," said Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong in a news release. "Let this be a reminder to anyone partaking in such abominable behavior. We will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law."
