Authorities urge Memphians to use public recycling centers

Posted: Updated:
SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Wondering what to do with those big boxes that came with your new big ticket items you received for Christmas?

Think twice about putting the boxes on the curb; the Shelby County Sheriff's Office is warning people that those boxes might attract burglars and thieves' attention.

You can dispose of them yourself at one of the several public recycling centers located across Shelby County.

If you're in the downtown area, drop off your big boxes in the gravel parking area on Mud Island Drive at the north entrance to the Mud Island Park.

Midtowners can drop off recycling at the center located at the corner of Cooper and Walker at the First Congregational Church.

If you live in East Memphis, the public recycling center is located on Moore Road, just off of Germantown Parkway South, near the Showplace Arena at Agricenter International.

You can also drop off recycling at the center located at the Hickory Hill Community Center located at 3910 Ridgeway Road, in Southeast Memphis.

If you live near Bartlett, recycling can be dropped off at the center on Highway 70 near the Appling Road intersection.

Memphis' recycling processing facility operated by ReCommunity is located at 3197 Farrisview Boulevard. You can find this location off of American Way near the Lamar intersection. The public can place their recycling in the carts located just outside the gate.
