(WMC-TV) - A state of emergency has been declared for Tennessee as severe winter weather moves into the area.

The State Emergency Operations Center set its activation at Level III-State of Emergency at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Tennessee Emergency Management Agency discourages traveling given the potential for slick road conditions as temperatures fall rapidly. If traveling is absolutely necessary, call 511 for road conditions and be sure someone knows where you are going and when you arrive. If you are stranded, call *THP (*847) to be connected to the closest Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatch office to your location.
