BARTLETT, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Cold weather can wreak havoc on water pipes. That was the case in Bartlett Tuesday morning where a water main broke at the corner of Stage Road and Sycamore View.

Bartlett water crews dug through the roadway to locate the break.

Carol Legions, who owns the Cutting Up Salon, watched out of her window as crews scrambled to make repairs to the water main.

"When I got here, they had the jack hammer and they were working on the street," said Legions.

When the break happened, it cut off water service to her business, as well as several others.

No water for Cutting Up Salon means Legions' customers will not get haircuts.

"Well it makes me have to re-schedule people that were scheduled to have shampoos," she explained. "I'll have to book them another time so you know it makes me not have business today."

Legions has operated her salon at that corner for 20 years and while she is eager to get water on again she says she knows that many others have more serious problems due to the cold weather.

"Well, you know I'm not going to complain about a little no water because I can just postpone and re-arrange my schedule, you know, where other people are suffering more than me," she added.

When it comes to pipe problems due to the cold weather, Bartlett Police Department shared a message with residents via its Facebook page:

"We are getting many reports of broken water pipes due to the temperature. This is not a life threatening emergency. Please do not call 911 for a broken pipe. Call your plumber. If you need further assistance, the number to the Bartlett Water Department is 385-5586."
