GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A man running from a bail bondsman took an icy plunge Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, 911 received a call shortly after 2 p.m.

According to the caller, a man running from a bail bondsman jumped into the Chattahoochee River by McGinnis Ferry Bridge.

The man, identified as Ernesto Galvez, 31, was being taken into custody at a nearby home when he fled the scene.

Galvez was wanted on a misdemeanor probation warrant and for failing to appear for a traffic violation. He was on probation for marijuana possession.

Officers said they found Galvez clinging to a tree near where he went into the river. They estimate he was in the water for upwards of 45 minutes.

Galvez was taken to the hospital for hypothermia. When he is discharged from the hospital he will be taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

He will not face additional charges because he was running from a bondsman and not the police.
