Georgia Southern narrows down coaching search

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Southern's next head football coach could be a former adversary as Wofford College's Mike Ayers has interviewed for the job.

Wofford Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Brent Williamson confirmed to WTOC that Ayers met with Georgia Southern officials this afternoon.

Ayers has been very successful at Wofford with their option attack.  While serving as head coach for the Terriers, Ayers is 7-12 against the Eagles, but 5-5 over the last 10 years, including a 30-20 win in 2013.

Various reports have the final four down to Ayers, Navy's Offensive Co-coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ivin Jasper, Sam Houston State Head Coach Willie Fritz, and Auburn assistant coach and running backs coach Tim Horton.
