(WMC-TV) - Two stores in two different states fell prey to a man posing as a fake repairman.

"It was crazy because it was in the middle of the day. He just walked in and walked right out," said employee Karleigh Moore.

The scam began with a phone call to an Olive Branch, Mississippi store Thursday. A woman told the Super Tans staff a repairman was on the way to fix some tanning beds.

"He just came in acting like he knew our boss and said that he was here to work on our beds," said Moore.

The suspect told staff he needed deposit money for the repairs and then left with the money.

"All of our level-two beds were down and he knew exactly that. He knew how our shift change worked," said Moore.

Olive Branch Police posted a Facebook message about a similar case in Collierville, Tennessee last Sunday saying, "It is possibly related. All businesses should make their employees aware of this type of scam."

Moore of Super Tans says the suspect at her store matched the same description as the Collierville suspect, down to the gray hoodie.

"The thing that happened in Collierville, it was exactly how it happened here. The things he said and how he knew so much about it," she said.

In Collierville, he entered a business posing as a G-Tech lottery vending machine repairman.

He told the store he had to perform a routine service inspection and asked for lottery tickets to replenish the machine.

He walked out with $900 in lottery tickets.

"He knew way too much, and that was how it was so believable," said Moore.

Employees learned a big lesson.

"We know everybody now that is supposed to be coming in," said Moore.

If you can help solve the case, call Collierville Crime Stoppers at 901-457-CASH or DeSoto County Crime Stoppers at 662-429-TIPS.
