City officials announce MPD downsizing

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – During a committee meeting on Tuesday, Memphis city officials announced the city's police complement will be downsized.

The police union says the department currently employs 2,483. The union learned at a Memphis City Council committee meeting that the complement will be reduced to 1,900.

The reduction comes amid severe city budget constraints.
