MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam joined Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell Wednesday morning to announce 1,000 jobs will be coming to Memphis.

Conduit Global—a company that offers customer support to wireless customers—will bring a 1,000-seat international call center to the Bluff City by 2018. Conduit says they will be hiring rapidly at their Goodlett Farms office park beginning January 22.

"Literally, everyone we hire will be local," said Conduit Global President Bryce Hayes.

The company is talking about hiring 300 people immediately.

Conduit employs 5,000 people in 14 locations across nine countries. The Chamber of Commerce says Memphis is benefiting from a new business trend.

"Keep the top 20 or 30 people in the big cities and move all of the back-office functions and things of that nature to lower-cost markets," said Mark Herbison with the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Conduit Global is hiring locals for every position, from entry-level to executive. Job titles include contact center agents to answer calls, IT specialists, workforce analysts, human resources, quality assurance, operations workers, supervisors, and even the center director.

Company executives say their new customer service center will operate three shifts seven days a week. They say salaries will be competitive with other companies in the market.

"We spent a lot of time and a lot of due diligence not just going through this area, but also other states and areas. We were convinced this gave us the best opportunity to succeed," said Hayes.

The Memphis and Shelby County mayors are prepared to make sure the launch is a success.

"We were kept abreast throughout the process of what's going to be expected of us, and we're sure we'll be able to do it," said Wharton.

Luttrell says it is another example of great partnerships at the state and local level.

The entire operation is software-driven in a 25,000-square-foot office. They plan to invest $8 million to upgrade the facility.

Workforce Investment Network (WIN) will launch job fairs. Qualifications for the jobs vary from a GED certification to beyond college degrees. To apply, click here or call 866-222-4860.
