Attala County, MS (Kosy Online) -

Police in Attala County responded to a four car pile up during a funeral procession Saturday.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. Saturday on Highway 12 East near Hilltop in Ethel.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol, Attala Fire and Rescue and Ethel Volunteer's responded to the accident.

There is no official word yet as to the exact cause of the accident.

According to eyewitness accounts three of the vehicles had stopped for the procession when a fourth topped the hill and collided with the stopped vehicles.

The jaws of life was needed to remove a door to free one of the drivers.

One person was transported to a local hospital. 

The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will be in charge of the investigation.
