(WMC-TV) - A public smoking ban could cost consumers $50 in some parts of Alcorn County, Miss.

Cigarette smokers will see more restrictions in the town of Farmington. Mayor Dale Fortenberry said smokers will not be able to have a cigarette on city or public property. Also, it will be banned within 15 feet of public entrances to businesses

"My kids, they have to endure it, even when they don't want to, they have to," said resident and mother Beth Nelms. "I've had them come in there blowing that smoke in my face, I don't think it's right."

Smokers will still be able to light up in their homes and private property.

After the board passed the public smoking ban, Farmington joined more than 60 other municipalities that have approved similar bans. Fortenberry said the new ordinance also applies to any smoked tobacco including electronic cigarettes.
