(WMC-TV) - In a three bedroom, two bathroom section eight rental home, a mother is doing whatever it takes to keep her family warm after the heat went out.

"It feels like outside. We're living literally like it's outside, inside," said Terrika Shields, who has been dealing with the cold weather uncomfortably the last seven days. "I can't imagine the temperature in here how do you expect children in here to sleep."

"You can see your breath as you're talking in here because it is just that cold in here," said Shields. "My children are only warm if they are in school, or we're down at a friends house. We have to go somewhere else to take a bath because it is too cold to shower in this house."

She says her landlord is not respond to her phone calls, only text messages with no word when it might be fixed.

And even then won't tell her what is wrong and when it might be fixed.

The Action News 5 Investigators called her landlord, who confirmed he was aware of the problem, and he said someone was on their way over, for the second time in seven days, to take a look. Then he hung up.

Shortly after the call someone arrived. They took a look at the furnace and ultimately determined the united need to be replaced.

The repairman said it will likely be replaced by Thursday afternoon.

"I could probably tough this out if I had to, but I have three kids in this house that depend on my, so it's not fair to them," said Shields.
