Brewbaker Middle School dealing with bat problem

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery middle school has been dealing with an unusual pest problem.

Montgomery Public School officials confirm an estimated 20 bats have been removed from Brewbaker Middle School in the past two weeks.

School officials say the bats made their way into the school through an exterior opening and settled in the attic area. A few bats have been seen in the hallways and one classroom has been closed due to the problem.

The exterior opening has been sealed so that additional bats can't enter the school.

One of the captured bats was taken to the Alabama Department of Public Health for testing but showed no signs of carrying a disease.

Officials believe the infestation has been resolved but will continue to monitor the situation.
